WHAT is a Fish?
A fish is an animal that lives in water. Its body is covered with scales to help it swim. Most types have a bony skeleton-filled swim bladder that helps them float, even when they stop swimming. Fish are cold-blooded, although a few fast-swimming fish have bodies that are slightly warmer than the surrounding water.
HOW many types of Fish are there?
According to a conservative estimate, there are about 28,000 different types of fish. They live in the salty oceans, and seas all around the globe, and in the world’s rivers, lakes, and ponds. Fish can be very different in shape, size, and color, for example, the tall batfish or the longest long-bodied flutemouth. The largest fish, up to 18 meters long, is the whale shark. the smallest is a type of body that is just one centimeter.
WHY are Fish slimy?
Fish feel slippery because their bodies are covered in slime. these slimy coats are produced by the skin, and protect the fish against disease and some parasites. The slime covers wounds and scratches, preventing infection. It may also help the fish slip through the water more easily. Some types of fish have poisonous slime to protect from predators.
HOW do Fish breathe?
Fish breath water, unlike land animals, which breath air. Inside a fish’s head is a pair of delicate gills, each protected by gill cover. The fish draws water in through its mouth. The water passes over the gills and out through the gill cover slit. The gills take up oxygen from the water.
They have a natural mechanism that they get oxygen from water.
